We do not know, and we cannot know, the result of the vote that will take place in Rome on next November 24 within the framework of the Extraordinary Congress of the FIRS that refers to the proposal of adhesion of the Catalan Skating Federation, according to what has been established by the CSA sentence of last July 15. What we can really know now, something that some of us have been explaining to whoever wanted to listen for many years, is that the simple fact that a vote takes place again to approve or not the affiliation of the Catalan Skating Federation by its International Federation, the FIRS, is the most obvious proof that such affiliation is completely legal, according to the juridical framework in force. The FIRS, as we have endlessly explained, is a private law organisation, and it operates accordingly. Since Fresno, no one that is not completely foolish or who has the minimum knowledge of juridical matters can say any longer without feeling ashamed that Catalan Teams are “illegal”. I accept, as it cannot be otherwise, that there are people, even in Catalonia, that do not agree or that do not want Catalan Teams. They are minority (about 15% according to the last polls) and must be respected. However, what is now different is that we cannot accept anymore the argument of the “illegality” of Catalan Teams, which was used in a biased way by part of this minority in order to marginalise us or to label us irresponsible dreamers. At present, legality is openly and unquestionably on our side, on the side of the majority. Regardless of the result of the vote in Rome, it is the final proof of it, the definitive one. Whatever the result, what counts is that the vote may happen, and not for the first time but for the second one, and, this time, on the request of a competent court, since it has been accepted by the very same protagonist, the FIRS. This simple fact has all by itself a vital repercussion and opens the door to future ones in other federations. Perhaps the day after we will or will not be in the FIRS. To be honest, I believe that it will be extremely difficult for us to be there after all that has happened. What we really know now about the day after is that, since it is “legal”, it is also possible. Regardless of what happens, we have already won in the vote of the 24th. It shall be now or on the next occasion, but it shall be. It shall be because we want it. It shall be because we can.
